Today we had an important presentation and Google just showed one of the direct rivals of the iPhone XS Max, the Pixel 3 XL . The new Google smartphone bets on a panel of more than 6 inches with notch.

Google has followed the strategy launched by Apple some years ago and has introduced two devices, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL. The latter seems a rival to the iPhone XS Max , let’s compare them.

Comparison table

Before we go into detail, here is the specification comparison chart of the iPhone XS Max and the new Pixel 3 XL .

Design

Comparing the design of the two devices, this is a large size to accommodate two screens over 6 inches . However, the iPhone XS Max has a larger screen, 6.5 inches versus 6.3 inches, in a more contained size, at least in length.

Another similarity is the notch, they are not similar but both have a cutout at the top of the screen. The one on Pixel 3 XL is a narrower notch but it fits more on the screen .

As for the materials, they are quite different. For two years now, Apple has been opting for glass in the back and a stainless steel frame. Google has joined the glass trend, which uses it in two different types of finish on the back.

On the back of the iPhone XS we have a double lens, which along with the Apple apple is the only thing that stands out. In the Pixel 3 XL we have a single camera and a fingerprint reader .

As for the colours, both are available in black and white, the iPhone XS Max in gold and the Pixel 3 XL in pink.

Screen

It is a two-device cake with a large screen, 6.5 and 6.3 inches. Both use OLED technology on their panels .

Without checking the quality of the panel of the Pixel 3 XL, which last year gave quite a few problems , the Super Retina screen of the iPhone XS Max is considered to be the best screen on a mobile phone.

The iPhone XS display features a wide colour gamut (P3), HDR10 and Dolby Vision . We’ll wait for the results, but Apple has set the bar very high.

Cameras

One of the key features of today’s smartphones. Last year the Pixel 2 turned out to have one of the best cameras in the industry , surpassing that of the iPhone X. But this year we still don’t know if this will happen again.

The iPhone XS Max has the second best camera on the market according to the analysis, so it is a worthy rival. We’ll have to wait and see how that single 12-megapixel sensor of the Pixel 3 XL performs against the double camera of the iPhone XS Max.

Power

There’s no doubt that Apple has the upper hand . The iPhone XS’s A12 chip is the first ever processor made in 7 nm , giving it unparalleled power. There is currently no mobile processor that can cope with it.

The Pixel 3 XL features the Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. However, the Snapdragon 845 is a long-standing processor and its successor will arrive in early 2019.

Price

To finish this comparison we come to the price. Seeing what the Apple device costs it is easy for Google to offer a cheaper option , the iPhone XS Max is the most expensive iPhone ever.

The iPhone XS Max starts from 1,259 euros for its 64 GB version, while the Pixel 3 XL is available for 949 euros and is already available for booking.
