iPhone Loses U.S. Market Share to Android

The iPhone is Apple’s flagship device, but according to a recent report by Kantar Worldpanel’s market research firm ComTech, the smartphone has lost market share in the United States to Android . However, the situation of the iPhone in Europe is improving.

Looking back, this time last year the iPhone had a 42.1% market share in the United States. Last fiscal quarter, Apple shipped 61.2 million iPhones worldwide , 40% more than last year, but it seems that not all that glitters is gold.

According to the report published by ComTech, the iPhone was very strong in Europe, but has lost market share in the United States . Android smartphones have been the obvious choice for this percentage.

Android, the main culprit in the fall of the iPhone in the United States

ComTech says that smartphones with the Android operating system are the main culprits in the fall of the iPhone’s market share in the United States. In this report they point out that Android’s success is related to LG , since the company has doubled its market share by taking the first place in the list of telephone providers in the North American market.

LG has overtaken Apple, gaining 43% of the North American market share , while the iPhone has dropped to second place with 41.3%. Samsung follows well behind, with a 29.3% market share in the United States.

If we look at the figures provided by ComTech the drop in market share of the iPhone has not been very great , but Apple should take this into account for the future. Although they will probably experience a rise in sales after the launch of the new iPhone model next September.

iPhone’s market share grows in Europe

As they say at DigitalTrends, although the iPhone has lost market share in the US, things are going much better in Europe. Over the last quarter, Android sales have been rather poor in Germany , recording its biggest drop in market share since the beginning of 2015.

For its part, the iPhone has been a great success in the old continent over the last few months . The increase in screen size, added to the reliability of iOS and the durability of the iPhone have been some of the most important factors taken into account by users when buying this smartphone and no other.
