The latest statistics from research firm Strategy Analytics show that Apple owns two of the three best-selling smartphones in the world in 2016.
The iPhone 6s has been named the best-selling smartphone in the second quarter of 2016 , based on an estimated 14 million shipments.
And… Yes, the iPhone 6s is still ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S7.
On the other hand, the iPhone 6 is in second place on the list , with 8.5 million shipments.
Strategy Analytics added that the iPhone 6s is still the most popular smartphone in the world today. This implies that it has remained number 1 in sales until now, when the iPhone 7 is about to appear on the scene.
Both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 have out-sold the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, launched in March 2016, which finished third on the list with 8.3 million shipments in the second quarter.
More bad news for Samsung, which “unfortunately” has had to offer the return of its Galaxy Note 7 after the explosion (literally) of the batteries of some units. In fact, Samsung’s defective units could cost the company between 1 and 5 billion dollars.
Wow, that smartphone must be the bomb…
In addition, Apple has officially reported that it sold 40 million iPhones during the second quarter, including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and other older models.
Finally, following the disaster of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 launch, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus could follow in the wake of the iPhone 6s and take over as the best smartphone of 2016. But to do so, Apple will have to surprise, both in design and hardware of the next-gen smartphone.
