Yesterday we knew about the World Mobile Congress awards for the best devices. The iPhone 6 and the LG G3 were awarded as the best smartphones and the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 the best tablet of the year . Without a doubt, the Microsoft tablet has been well received with its concept that aims to replace tablets and laptops.
Today we’re going to look at the rumors about the upcoming tablets from Apple and Microsoft such as the possible iPad Air 3 and the Surface Pro 4 to get an idea of what’s to come in the world of tablets.
Last year, Microsoft received $1 billion in profits from the Surface Pro 3, 20% more than the previous year. Meanwhile, the Bite Block kids sold over 21 million iPads with nearly nine billion in profits. These figures are unattainable for other brands.
It should be noted that neither Apple nor Microsoft have confirmed either the iPad Air 3 or the Surface Pro 4 so all the data we offer you is based on leaks and rumours.
The iPad Air 3 has a hard time improving the design of the iPad Air 2 since reducing the current 6.1mm seems complicated a priori but Apple always has some surprises ready in terms of design and could thin the tablet according to some rumours. As for the screen of the new model, it could be improved with a Retina screen and 401ppi according to MacWorld.
Rumours about Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 point out that there will be no big changes in terms of design and size and that it will only be an SP3 with some improvements but on the same basis that has given it so much success. So rumors point to two sizes, one of 13 or 14 inches and another of 8 inches. The resolution could be raised to 3,840 x 2160 pixels in the 14-inch model keeping the same resolution of 2160×1440 for the rest.
This new generation of tablets would also incorporate new processors. Many imagine that the Surface Pro 4 would have a more powerful processor that exceeds the current fourth generation Intel Core (i3, i5 and i7 at 1.50GHz, 1.90GHz and 1.79GHz respectively). Therefore it is expected that the new SP4 will carry the new Broadwell 14nm chis that would improve the autonomy and would allow a passive cooling without the fans that so many people find annoying.
Apple for its part would continue the tradition of upgrading its processors with each tablet model. Thus it is expected that the new iPad Air 3 processors will be the A9 or A9X.

RAM would be an aspect that both tablets would improve as usual. The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 could increase its current 8GB of RAM but no rumors give exact data. The Apple tablet is also expected to increase RAM as the guys on the block announced an increase in their devices for this year, so the iPad Air 3 would surely come with 2GB of RAM.
Unless there is a major surprise in the next Keynote on March 9, Apple will prepare the new iPad Air 3 for the Keynote in October, one year after the launch of the iPad Air 2. The fourth tablet from Microsoft is expected to arrive on July 10 with the new Windows 10.
There are no significant rumours about prices that give details of the pricing strategy that could vary in either Apple or Microsoft . Thus the third model of the iPad Air would have similar prices but would lower the prices of the current model. The Surface Pro 4, on the other hand, does not have significant rumours as to price either, so it is expected that they will be similar or lower, since the prices of the current models are already high enough.

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 will as expected come with Windows 10 as its operating system and is expected to incorporate LTE capability. The iPad Air 3 may come with either iOS 8 or iOS 9 depending on when it finally comes out . If it comes out before October it will have iOS 8 and if it comes out later it will have iOS 9 which is expected for Apple’s Keynote in the fall.
