The new Beta version includes a Portrait Mode for the dual camera of the iPhone 7 Plus. This mode is designed to mimic the depth-of-field type of images taken with a DSLR by focusing on the front subject and defocusing the background.

To achieve this effect the camera’s integrated image processor scans a scene using learning techniques to recognize the people who appear in the photograph. This is a very interesting new feature for the iPhone 7 Plus dual camera, and this is just the beginning. The dual camera and its wide angle photographic lens are capable of doing wonderful things.

It is rumored that the new portrait functionality uses a technology acquired from the company LinX that Apple purchased some time ago.

On the other hand, this mode is in Beta phase, so Apple still has to work on it thoroughly . This feature requires a lot of lighting and the right focus, as well as the precise distance between objects to work normally.

There’s more news in the iOS 10.1 Beta Update for iPhone and iPad. System stability has been improved and some motion bugs have been fixed . Developers will now have access to the barometric data of the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4 and iPad Pro.

You can download the iOS 10.1 Beta from the Apple Developer Center, provided you’re registered.
