Intel’s eight-core processors come to laptops

Apple has just released new 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro . The company has decided to go ahead for a couple of weeks to this year’s WWDC to announce enhancements to its more “Pro” laptops. The main improvements are focused on the Intel processors inside, since for the first time we will have the option of an eight-core model in a laptop.

Cupertino’s firm has also taken the opportunity to make small changes to its butterfly keyboard , in order to further improve its reliability. But there aren’t too many details about it.

Twice the power of an eight-core MacBook Pro

As can be seen in the table above, this update revolves around the Touch Bar laptops . Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models have received improvements in their processors compared to last year, although it is the latter where they are most noticeable. The 13-inch MacBook Pro retains its four cores, but has slightly increased maximum power in both normal and turbo boost modes.

In AppleAnalysis MacBook Pro (2018), compact power anywhere

It is in its big brother that we see the great changes of this generation of 2019 MacBook Pro . According to Apple, this model has twice the performance of a quad-core MacBook Pro and 40% more than a six-core MacBook Pro. Apple evaluated these improvements by comparing the performance of the 15-inch, quad-core MacBook Pro with an eight-core MacBook Pro. The team gives these results, according to Apple :

  • Music producers can use twice as many Alchemy plug-ins in Logic Pro X.
  • 3D renderings with Maya Arnold are twice as fast.
  • Filters and complex edits with Photoshop are 75% faster
  • Code compilation is 65% faster in Xcode.
  • Dynamic fluid simulations with TetrUSS are 50% faster.
  • Video editing can edit up to 11 simultaneous 4K multicam streams under Final Cut Pro X.

It is clear that the inclusion of a MacBook Pro model with eight cores is a source of pride for Apple , since it is the first time they obtain that number of cores .

Changes to the butterfly keyboard

Apple has also confirmed that it has made changes to the keyboard’s butterfly mechanism . Without specifying in detail the details of the improvement, the company has worked to increase the reliability of the keyboards on these new devices.

Apple claims that the vast majority of its customers are satisfied with the keyboard. But it has also wanted to be proactive in solving the problems of a small part of its butterfly keyboards. It is still the same mechanism, but improved.

In addition, the free repair program started almost a year ago for older models has been extended . And repair times in the service department have improved enormously. We should have more details soon.

We will have to wait for the exploded view of these new devices to know what the concrete changes are in this new keyboard. In the previous generation, Apple added a silicone membrane to each key to dampen the sound and protect it from particles entering the mechanism.

We hope to be able to test these new computers at Apple in the next few days, so stay tuned. In the next few days we’ll publish our analysis.
