In the future, Apple Watch could call 911 if the user suffers a heart attack

The apple company patented an emergency medical alert system so that their smart watch is capable of calling 911 in case the wearer has a heart attack . Although the patent text does not mention which devices it refers to, it does indicate that it would be a device with the ability to measure heart strength that would send the signal to another device that can make calls to connect to 911.

The patent also indicates that the device could be configured to be vigilant depending on the range of pulses the user has to take action. If it is something light, for example, would only send an email to a relative of the user to warn them about the situation.

Similarly, if for example the iPhone accelerometer detects a sudden change and stops sensing the user’s heart rate, the system will immediately understand that the user has suffered a heart attack and will automatically call the emergency line.

“Events may include car accident, bicycle accident, an emergency such as a heart attack, aneurysm, loss of children from their caregivers, avalanches, fires …” , points out the document. The patent also refers to the issue of geolocation, which would help to identify whether the user suffered an accident that should be reported.

At the moment it is only a patent, so we do not know if we will be able to see this technology in any of Apple’s devices in the future. It is even worth remembering that many of these patents take a long time to become a reality .
