Connect your iPhone to your MacBook to use Keynote Remote if you don’t have a Wi-Fi network handy

Keynote Remote is an application that I’m sure many of those who present with Keynote use if they have an iPhone. The only problem it poses is that we need a Wi-Fi network to pair Keynote Remote with our Mac, and not every presentation site has a Wi-Fi network available. So today we’re showing you how to connect both applications without a router.

Surely it has happened to many of us that we have arrived at a place to make a presentation and we have realized that the Wi-Fi network did not arrive with enough power , was capped, or directly shone by its absence.

Normally we prepare for these contingencies with all the material offline , or we pass the slides by pressing the arrows on the keyboard by hand . Other professionals carry their Apple Remote to pass between slides or have bought a Bluetooth remote specially designed for this purpose.

But there is another possibility, and that is to use Keynote Remote for iPhone, an application that besides allowing us to pass between slides , will allow us to see on the iPhone screen which slide is being projected -if we have the projector behind us-, and even to see the presenter’s notes on our iPhone screen, which has an incredible utility.

The problem with Keynote Remote is that requires both our Mac and iPhone to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network , but if we stand in a place where there’s no Wi-Fi, we’re completely sold out, because both devices will be unable to pair up.

So what can I do to pair Keynote Remote with my MacBook?

Well, all is not lost, nor do you need to take a router to bridge the gap. Actually, doesn’t require an Internet connection to pair your MacBook with your Keynote Remote. It requires a Wi-Fi network , and you don’t need a Wi-Fi router to do that, because OS X allows you to create a virtual Wi-Fi network to connect other devices. So, these are the steps we will have to follow:

  • Click on the Wi-Fi icon on the system bar, and click on Create Network.
  • In the window that pops up, we’ll have to fill in the information, such as the name of the network, the channel (we can leave the default one), the type of security, and the password in case we want to protect the network.
  • Once the network is created on the MacBook, we’ll go to the iPhone and connect to that Wi-Fi network we’ve created. If you’ve set a password, you’ll need to enter it on your iPhone to connect properly.
  • Now we will open Keynote Remote and we can start the presentation to control it from our iPhone.

Linking Keynote to Keynote Remote for the first time

In case we have never linked the iPhone with Keynote Remote, we just need to create a new link . These are the steps to follow:

  • We click on the Link to Keynote button ; New link to Keynote. Next, a window will appear with a code, and that will be the one we will have to introduce in the Keynote of the computer.

    Keynote Remote (0,89 euros)

Usa tu cuenta de Facebook para dejar tu opinión.

Publica tu opinión usando tu cuenta de Facebook.

Now in Keynote we will have to go to the Keynote menu ? There we will select our iPhone and click on Link. There we will enter the code that Keynote Remote gave us in the iPhone and they will be linked.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, Keynote Remote is the best application we can have on our iPhone if we make presentations regularly. The 89 cents you have to pay for it are more than justified , because even though it’s a very simple application, its usefulness and viewers’ amazement is worth more than those 0.89 euros.

The only thing we can say about it , which is not small, is that it is not yet optimized for iPhone 5 . That an application that Apple itself develops is not optimized for the iPhone 5’s widescreen Retina is, at the very least, a court of law. Let’s hope that in the next update of the iWork suite they give Keynote Remote a good facelift.
