iCloud, a possible name for Apple’s new cloud strategy

GigaOM

It turns out that a company called iCloud (which is owned by Xcerion, a Swedish company) has surprisingly renamed its name to CloudMe, having acquired the domain cloudme.com on April 5th. And the domain icloud.com that they have stopped using would have been taken by Apple , buying it for just over three million euros.

If we access icloud.com using our browser we are redirected to cloudme.com for the moment, although that website already asks users of the service to update their addresses to cloudme.com . If Apple is the real new owner of iCloud.com, we’d already have the name of that service we’ve been talking about for so long. All of this reminds me with some nostalgia of something very similar that happened two years ago, when there were rumors of a re-baptism of the .Mac service along with rumors of a mysterious acquisition of the me.com domain… it was a time when no one expected something like MobileMe.
