How to tell if your iPhone 6s has a Samsung A9 or TSMC chip

As we mentioned yesterday, it seems that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus that integrate the A9 chip manufactured by TSMC have a better performance than if they use Samsung’s. Apple’s new flagship is already with us, so if you want to know who made the A9 chip in your new iPhone 6s we’ll tell you how you can do it.

The problem known as chipgate seems to be a reality already and the iPhone 6s can last about two more hours depending on whether the A9 chip is made by Samsung or TSMC. Whether this difference in performance is real or not remains to be seen.

Here’s how you can find out if the A9 chip in your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus is made by Samsung or TSMC in a very simple way and without putting your new and precious treasure at risk. Here we go!

The first thing you have to do is download the Lirum Device Info Lite application with iTunes , which curiously disappeared from the App Store for a few hours. Then open the application, click on Menu and look for the model reference on the main page, the so-called Hardware Model.

This is where you can find out who makes the A9 chip in your iPhone 6s. If the part number is N66AP or N71AP, Samsung manufactured it, while if the part number is N66MAP or N71MAP, the manufacturer is TSMC .

Another way to find out who made the A9 chip on your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus is to download the iMazing application to a computer running Windows XP or higher or a Mac running OS X 10.7 or higher . It should be noted that you will not find this application on the Mac App Store, but it is signed by the developer.

Once you have it installed and open, just connect your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus to your computer, unlock it and accept in case it asks you if you want to trust this equipment. Select your iPhone and click on “Get Info” , an option you will find in the lower right corner.

Here you have to look at the Hardware Model . The references will be exactly the same as the ones above: N66AP or N71AP for Samsung and N66MAP or N71MAP for TSMC.

In theory the Samsung A9 chip makes the iPhone 6s perform somewhat less and the battery lasts about two hours less than if you use the chip manufactured by TSMC. But as we said before, this theory has yet to be confirmed.
