Guía de buenas prácticas en la instalación de Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 y Compressor 4
Yesterday Apple published a guide of good practices when installing the new versions of Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor . The reason is that, as some users have complained, Final Cut for example does not allow you to open projects created with previous versions. Therefore, the installation of these new versions does not replace the previous ones, and they can coexist without problems.
But of course, to avoid possible conflicts, Apple has created a manual in which they explain the correct or at least the most suitable way to install the new versions. The first recommendation is to install them on a different hard disk than the one that, if we have them, has the previous versions. If, on the contrary, we do not have a second hard disk, the best thing would be to create an additional partition where to perform a new installation, something that I do not think many users are willing to do.
Let’s see the option that will be the most typical, install the new versions in the same disk where we have Final Cut Studio , until they see if the new version convinces them and manages to replace their current work tools. If you already have a previous version of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor or the complete Final Cut Studio suite, the first thing to do is to update to the latest version, especially the latest ProKit 7.0 update that you can download from the Apple website.
Once you download the new applications from the Mac App Store they will begin to install. By doing this on the same disk as the previous versions you will move all those applications to a new folder that you will create called Final Cut Studio . To check that there have been no errors and that everything works correctly it is recommended to try opening Motion 4, before another application of Final Cut Studio. If everything goes well we will be able to use both versions without any problem. The last step is to create a folder called, for example, Final Cut Pro X where we will throw Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor. Then we’ll return the Final Cut Studio applications to their original location.
The process of moving previous versions of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack, etc… to their original location is quite simple. In the new folder created we changed the permissions allowing the Administrator to Read and Write. To do this, we right-click on the folder and go to the Permissions option. There we change it and we will be asked for the administrator password. There, we have the new versions installed and the previous ones in their original location, both fully functional. Although some are not very happy and will return to the previous version until Apple updates to a more complete version than the current one, but we’ll tell you about that some other time.
