We all like having our complete Apple ecosystem , with all the devices on the block working equally. However, sometimes we are forced, either by work or by some application or game that is not available for MacOS, to have a computer with the Microsoft operating system or to install it on our Mac with Boot Camp or any other method.
If this is your case, it would be very useful for you to have access to your iCloud cloud in the Windows operating system you use to be able to access the information you have stored, your contacts, your mail, calendar, etc. Here’s how to install the official Apple application on your Windows device.
Download the iCloud application for Windows
In this case there is an official application from Cupertino’s company for Microsoft’s operating system, you just have to search Google for “iCloud for Mac” and it will take you directly to the software download website.
This website explains exactly what we can do with this application outside our Apple devices. All we have to do is click on the “Download” button and the installer will start downloading instantly. In my case, when I downloaded it, my PC warned me that the file could cause damage to my computer, but I trust the Apple software.
Install the downloaded software
Once the installer has been downloaded to our computer, we execute it by double-clicking on it with the mouse and clicking on “Execute” in the window that appears. The next thing shown is the “iCloud for Windows and extensions license agreement”. Read the agreement carefully and check “I accept the terms of the license agreement” at the bottom. If you want the application to be automatically updated, leave the corresponding option checked and if not, uncheck it and click on the “Install” button. If we have configured the Windows user account control it will ask us for permission to install it. At that moment the application will be installed.
Once the task is finished the installer will ask us to restart the computer, if we plan to do it later click on “No”, on the contrary click on “Yes” so that it restarts at that very moment.
Configuring iCloud for Windows
This application is very intuitive and very easy to configure . Once we’ve restarted the computer and with the application open on our PC we’ll see the login window. At this point we enter our Apple ID’s email and password to start the application.
Once we log in with our Apple ID we see the main screen of the application. Here we can choose what we want to synchronize between our iCloud account and the PC.
What can I do with the iCloud for Windows application?
The Apple support website details what allows us to synchronize the application with our iCloud account and how to use it. Here are the functions that we can synchronize on our PC.
Synchronize our mail, calendar, tasks and contacts on all our devices
If we check the box “Mail, contacts, calendars and tasks” in the application’s configuration, our iCloud data will be synchronized with the application Outlook on the PC, so we can have our data updated at all times from any device.
If we activate the photos function, a folder will be created on the PC with the photos and videos we have in iCloud. From that folder we can see the photos we upload to iCloud from our Apple devices. If you have a photo or video on your PC that you want to see on your iPhone, for example, you only have to copy it to the folder and it will be automatically uploaded to iCloud.
View our files on iCloud Drive and upload files from your PC
When the application is activated, a folder called “iCloud Drive” will be created on the PC. In that folder we’ll see all of the documents that we have in the cloud and we’ll be able to add new documents from the PC at any time.
As you can see it is an application easy to install and configure with which we will be able to access our iCloud Drive to work with the files we use in our daily life in a simple way and be able to see and share our photos and videos from any computer.
