Throughout its more than 40 years of history, Apple’s shares have fluctuated a lot, but in recent years they have only increased in value. These increases in share prices have made us wonder how much money we could have made if we had invested in Apple at one of the key moments in its history: the launch of the original iPhone 10 years ago. It has suffered good and bad times and something that in the world is known as a split. This means, to make it easier, that a share is divided into X shares, and the same happens with their value. This is done when the value of a share is so high that few people can invest because of the price.Apple has made numerous splits throughout its stock market history, the last one was in 2014 and it was from 1 to 7. As there have been several splits, if you had bought a share in 1980, when Apple went public, you would now have 56 shares. Most stockbrokers have already adjusted Apple’s share prices to the splits, so everything is much easier.on January 9, 2007, when the original iPhone was launched, each Apple share was paid at $13.22 (the price considering the 2014 split).as of August 3, 2007, the value of each share is $207.39.With these values in hand, Apple’s shares have multiplied by 15 their value in 10 years. In other words, if we had invested 1000 euros we would now have more than 15,000 in our pocket. You may be one of the lucky ones who bought the original iPhone, like our colleague Nacho, for the 499 dollars it came out for, but knowing this you would have surely reconsidered. If you had invested it in Apple shares, you would now have had 7,828 euros and you could have bought the iPhone X without any problems. Apple’s shares were sold for $22, as we mentioned before, after successive splits that share would now have become 56 shares, so you would have had $11,614.00. In all these calculations we have not taken inflation into account, a 1980 dollar is not the same as a current dollar. Nor have we taken into account the dividends that the company has been paying its shareholders. But it does give us an idea of how much Apple has grown over the years.
