The guys from iFixit , experts in dismantling all the devices that fall into their hands, have made an analysis in which they determine that the Nexus 7 from Google is easier to repair than the new Apple iPad . They indicate that the components of the Google Tablet are assembled using standard tools, as opposed to those of the handheld device which are glued together.
A simple assembly system that makes it easier to disassemble the Nexus 7, but also makes it more fragile and when you open it, cracks may appear in the plastic casing that the Google Tablet is made of.
Compared to the dismantling of the new iPad, which was also done in iFixit , the Nexus 7 wins by a landslide in the repair section with 7 points out of 10 . The Kindle Fire scored 8 points in this section, while our beloved tablet only got 2 points out of 10.
The worst thing about the Nexus 7 design is that the LCD screen does not separate from the glass, making the repair of a possible blow to the glass would mean replacing the entire assembly, including the LCD screen, which would trigger the cost of the repair.
As for the battery, the Google Tablet uses a 4326 mAh battery that can last up to 9 hours and 49 minutes. This is a bit different from the Kindle Fire, which with a 4400 mAh battery only lasts 7 hours and 42 minutes.
The third in line, the new iPad, has a much larger battery , with a capacity of 11,500 mAh and a battery life of at least 9 hours and 52 minutes using HSPA (9 hours and 37 minutes if using LTE). Note that the Google Tablet does not have mobile connectivity , which helps to reduce battery consumption.
Once disemboweled, we can see one by one the components that the new Nexus 7 of Google has:
- 1GB of Hynix DDR3 RAM, the same unit that powers the new MacBook Pro with Retina display.
- The 7-inch screen with 1280×800 HD resolution is from Hydis, specifically the model HV070WX2
- The processor, as we know, is a T30L Tegra 3 by Nvidia
- Max 77612ª Switching Controller
- AzureWave Wifi Module AW-NH885
- Broadcom’s BCM4751 integrated GPS receiver
- NFC chip model NXP 65N04
- Invensense brand gyroscope and accelerometer model MPU-6050
As we have already mentioned on several occasions, the Google Tablet has been developed jointly with Asus and we will have it available in two models, 8 and 16GB, at a price of 199 and 249 Euros respectively .
The main technical features of the Google Tablet are support for NFC, WiFi, GPS, 7-inch IPS panel with 1280×800 pixels resolution and 216 pixels per inch density, Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of DDR3 Ram, 1.2 Megapixel front camera (no rear camera) and all governed by the operating system Android 4. 1 Jelly Bean .

I leave you a video of the dismantling made by iFixit :
The Nexus 7 has been very well received by the specialized press, which has considered that the Google Tablet is the most elegant, fluid and complete of all the 7-inch tablets on the market (I must add that this was not at all complicated, seeing the low level of the current tablets).
So far Apple has not taken up patent infringement against Google, but Nokia has, although it is not yet known if there is an actual complaint or if it has just been a media blitz.
More and more rumors are saying that by the end of this year we will see an iPad Mini . Just this week, the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, have given credibility to these rumors by assuring that a smaller and cheaper model is already being mass-produced and will be launched in September-October.
We’ll see soon, but when the river sounds…
