Google adds support for Safari from some of its latest additions to Gmail

You can now attach a file by dragging it over the message (top image), add images in the body text in the same way (though you’ll need to enable the ‘Insert images’ feature in the Labs tab first), and open new windows separate from the main Gmail window that still work even if we close this one, something that until recently was only possible in Chrome. In other words, in the past, if we opened a new window to compose a message or keep our to-do list in view, and closed the main Gmail window, these additional windows would no longer work. Thankfully, Safari 5 has now overcome this limitation as well, joining Chrome users who were able to do all of this as of last June.

Regardless of all this, it seems pretty obvious that the line between web applications and desktop applications is getting blurred – good for Google and the other developers determined to boost the web!
