There are still months to go before 2018, and while we don’t even have the next iOS 11 emojis yet… we already know which ones will be in the next version, possibly the ones that will be released with iOS 12. Unicode President Mark Davis has revealed the preliminary candidates to be selected as new emojis in 2018.
A total of 67 emojis and changes can be found in the future version. From a frozen face to the red hair tone, without forgetting of course the poo with a sad face. The emojis do not stop growing, and little by little they are becoming a new way of communicating in the digital age.
Last month Apple highlighted what would be some of the emojis coming with iOS 11, it did so during the International Emoji Day. Those emojis will arrive in a few weeks with the launch of iOS 11, watchOS 4 and macOS High Sierra. Those that have been presented today will however have to wait for iOS 12 , watchOS 5 and the next version of macOS.
For a long time organizations like Unicode or companies like Apple have been criticized for giving so much relevance to emojis. Typical topics such as “they could invest that time and money in improving X” or “what nonsense when what really matters is X” keep coming up. However, time has proven Apple and the person who gives importance to emojis right. They are a new language and despite some, it is the way hundreds of thousands of people communicate , new generations that transmit their emotions more easily with a smiling poo than by writing a sentence.
