Gene Munster, the Piper Jaffray analyst who has been the subject of many Apple rumors (many of which have turned out to be true), recently commented that Apple is the best company that could change the pay TV business . According to Gene, we only have to look at what Steve Jobs said at the D8 conference (part one and part two) over two months ago:
The rumored $99 ‘iTV’ could be the redesign Jobs is talking about, with the ability to play streaming video from the same network and a special iOS from which we could play games and access the entire catalog of applications. In addition, Munster is confident that the $99 device could pave the way for an all-inclusive Apple TV , at a price that would rise to $2,000.
Would you pay that much money for a TV? In addition to having an LED screen I would have all the hardware integrated, so we would save a whole series of additional hardware boxes in our dining room furniture. You’ll see if Apple finally comes up with that redesigned Apple TV from both a physical and a software perspective.
