While it is true that a few months ago he made sure that Firefox would never reach iOS because of the limitations imposed by Apple…, the truth is that now things seem to have changed, and Mozilla’s own VP believes that they should get to where their users are now , that is, using an iPhone or an iPad.
The fact that Firefox comes to iOS means a major change in Mozilla’s ideology , since one of the reasons why Mozilla refused to enter iOS was because Apple did not allow third-party services to use its own web engines. In fact, in 2013 Jay Sullivan referring to this issue said:
This limitation, coupled with the inability to set a third-party browser as the default browser, makes it difficult for others like Chrome, Opera and Firefox to create satisfactory browsing experiences on the Apple platform. And while little is known about Firefox’s plans for iOS, Mozilla will likely have to continue working within Apple’s boundaries .
Be that as it may, the fact that we now have this news, gives a hope for Firefox users on computers . Mozilla would be in a way helping Firefox users to achieve a more fluid and contextualized browsing experience. We’ll see what the next few months have in store.
