Filemaker closes development on Bento, its “home” database manager

Comunicado oficial de FileMaker

At Filemaker they have made a decision that must have been hard for them. Bento , the database manager intended for the general market, will be discontinued on September 30 . The company will focus only on Filemaker, its most professional solution and according to an official statement the one that attracts more users on iOS terminals right now.

Bento applications will not be retired, they will still be present on the App Store and the Mac App Store, but updates will stop arriving on September 30 and support will cease one year from now, on July 30, 2014 . It is therefore a complete withdrawal of this range of programs, and Filemaker knows ” that many users will be disappointed “.

Finally, Filemaker encourages these Bento users to start thinking about migrating their databases to Filemaker and start using that more professional solution now. Either that or use another way to organize data, of course. That’s a shame, because Bento was the only database manager geared toward the non-professional user. It was simple, it was colorful, and it had everything for those who need to catalog all their stuff.
