The new Mac Pro 2019 is official. Apple has unveiled what is to be its next star computer, the most powerful of all time. The Mac for the professional environment has made an appearance at this WWDC and we already know what it looks like and some of its features . However, it will not be released yet.
Apple has introduced the Mac Pro 2019 at this WWDC19. It has fulfilled its promise. This new Mac Pro joins the other pro Macs in our lineup right now: the MacBook Pro and iMac Pro. And it’s not just the Mac, it’s the official Apple external display with a 6K resolution.
Modularity returns to the Mac Pro
Six years ago, with the Mac Pro 2013, Apple abandoned the possibility of easily expanding the internal components of the Mac Pro. It was one of the biggest complaints from users. It seems that in Cupertino they listened to feedback and came back to a design with more facilities to change internal parts . This is essential for the professional environment.
PCIe returns to the Mac Pro. It has 8 PCIe slots available so that users can connect any expansion cards they wish. Apple has commented that it is very easy to access the interior of the computer to change these components.
As design details, this new Mac Pro comes with two handles to hold the Mac Pro and lift it comfortably. It’s constructed of stainless steel. To further enhance its portability it can be fitted with… wheels!
A power that seems infinite
What characterizes the Mac Pro is certainly its power. Apple has not fallen short in this regard. The new Mac Pro 2019 supports up to 28 cores thanks to the new Intel Xeon . It has 12 slots for RAM cards. To bring power to all this, it comes with a 300W TDP. More figures, it brings up to 1.5 terabytes of hard disk, two 10Gbps Ethernet ports.
The new GPUs will feature a 16x PCIe connector with an extra PCIe, DisplayPort and fanless design. A new MPX architecture for Mac with Radeon Pro 580x, Pro Vega II with up to 14 teraflops and 32GB HBM2. All the big professional design companies have already announced support for the new Mac Pro: BlackMagic, Adobe, Serif, Autodesk, Unity, Pixar, Foundry, Maxxon… By the way, you can move three 8K screens without any problem.
31.6 inch size and resolution 6K
This new Mac Pro doesn’t come alone, but comes with a new screen . The new Apple monitor has the same design as the new Mac Pro. That means a bright design, with “holes” in the back surface and stainless steel details. But what’s interesting here are the specifications it comes with…
This is a screen with 6K resolution of 6,016 x 3,384 pixels . It is a 32-inch LCD screen with up to 20 million pixels. In terms of colour, it has a high dynamic range and P3 standard. The brightness goes up to 1,000 nits, which is a bit of a joke. 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio too. Apple says it’s not high dynamic range, but extreme dynamic range .
The stand holding the screen is also special. Apple makes it easy to put it on and take it off. The screen can also be raised or tilted without hardly changing the space. And finally and perhaps most importantly, it allows to put the monitor in portrait mode .
Price and availability of the new Mac Pro
The Mac Pro 2019 has been featured on this WWDC19, but just like the iMac Pro, we’ll have to wait a little while to see it on the Apple Store. During the keynote Apple has introduced it and warned that will come to market this fall . It will most likely debut with the new version of macOS.
The output Mac Pro comes with 256GB of SSD and 32GB of RAM. Its output price is $5,999 .
