Tomorrow we will have new iPhones, new Apple Watch and more new Apple products. These new iPhones will most likely include Face Id as a biometric authentication system. But what about Touch ID? An Apple manager has indicated that will continue to play an important role in Apple’s future .
Touch ID was introduced with the iPhone 5s. The fingerprint reader allowed for convenient authentication using the fingerprint . A system that has improved and evolved over the years but was finally replaced by Face ID on the iPhone X. This does not mean the end of the fingerprint reader, we had it on the iPhone 8 two years ago and there are rumors that it could come back under the screen of future iPhones.
In an interview with Daily Express, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Product Marketing, explains some of the issues surrounding Face ID and Touch ID. Greg indicates that Face ID will reach more Apple devices, but also that Touch ID will remain present. He especially refers to iPads (those without the Pro name).
While we now use Face ID on the latest iPhone and iPad models, it was the Touch ID that popularized the idea of improving device security . Thanks to the fact that it allowed faster and more convenient authentication than entering a digit, people started to secure their devices and internal data more. According to Greg Joswiak:
On AppleAn iPhone with Face ID and Touch ID under the screen would arrive in 2021, according to Ming-Chi Kuo
Will Touch ID remain only on the most affordable iPads? In principle, and like everything around Apple, we’ll have to wait for introductions and leaks to clear up these doubts. The latest iPhones have abandoned Touch ID to save space and focus on the screen. It is difficult for Apple to introduce the Touch ID as we know it again, if it returns it could do it under the screen, to continue taking advantage of the front without dedicating space to the fingerprint reader itself.
