The function to edit a post is available on many platforms, such as Facebook. However, other social networks such as Twitter do not allow it yet despite the fact that we are many users who claim to be able to edit our own tweet s. This could end up changing in the not too distant future according to CEO Jack Dorsey.
When can we edit our ‘tweets’ on Twitter?
If you’re a Twitter user, it’s likely that you’ve ever had to delete a tweet that you’ve already posted because you noticed it contained a spelling error , or that you simply wish you’d expressed yourself differently. On those occasions you would probably have preferred to be able to edit that tweet rather than delete it and lose all the interactions it would have generated. You are not alone in this, as many users have needed this tool at some point, which is not available on the microblogging network.
Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter
Co-founder and current CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey , recently made a statement at an event in India regarding the possible addition of a tweet editor:
“You have to pay attention to what uses you would give to the edit button. Many people want the edit button because they want to quickly correct a mistake they made, such as a spelling error or tweeting an incorrect URL. This is much more feasible than allowing people to edit any tweet over time.”
In addition to these words, he also wanted to add to his statements that the company has been working for some time on the possibility of incorporating this tool , although again highlighting the l temporary imitations of the editor. The controversy that could result in the deletion of something from the public record is also of concern to Dorsey.
What are the disadvantages of a tweet editor?
The advantages of including a tweet editor can be easily appreciated, such as the correction of spelling errors already mentioned. However, it can also be a double-edged sword .
Whether for one reason or another, Twitter lives permanently in the eye of the hurricane . Or rather it is some of its users who live at the mercy of controversy, like public figures, who are watched with a magnifying glass by their followers and also by their detractors, bringing certain controversies to light. With a tweet editor, these could be remedied to some extent, although it is possible for the editor to include with it a history of edits . The latter could further fuel the controversy on many occasions.
In short, Twitter and its developers have to be careful with every innovation and foresee possible problems due to the particularity of this social network . As for the tweet editor, it is still a mere request from many users, because although the possibility of including it has been considered, is still not being developed nor has it been 100% confirmed that it will be.
