It’s been a while since we heard news about the official biopic project about the life of Steve Jobs, based on Walter Isaacson’s book and that the scriptwriter Aaron Sorkin, responsible for the series “The Newsroom” or “The West Wing of the White House” as well as many great scripts for movies like “Some Good Men” or “The Social Network”, have pending for Sony Pictures.
And now we get the news through Variety, that David Fincher, the great director behind “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” or the mentioned “The Social Network” would be in talks to take charge of the project .
Producers Guymon Casady (“Game of Thrones”, “The Mercenaries”) and Mark Gordon (“Criminal Minds”, “Grey’s Anatomy”) would be behind the project. According to Sorkin a few months ago, the film would be based on 3 main blocks of approximately 30 minutes that would count, as flashback , all the way to 3 of the most important keynotes of Jobs’ life: the Mac, the NeXT presentation (after his departure from Apple) and the iPod presentation .
It is striking that the structure is similar to that proposed by the already released “Jobs”, starring Ashton Kutcher, who is also to blame for the delay of this project because Sony is analyzing with a magnifying glass the commercial failure that has been that film.
It seems that their strategy is to sell the film not only as biopic of the official biography, but also to give importance to the project through the people involved in it . If they also included the keynote of the iPhone as a colophon it would be ideal, but maybe that progression or story is not so interesting for the big audiences.
Of course, putting David Fincher at the helm would be a good idea because he has already shown how telling the story of Facebook in a film can become a lesson in film narrative like few have seen in recent years. Let’s hope these negotiations come to fruition.
