This year Atari has prepared a special celebration for one of their most popular games. In connection with the 40th anniversary of Missile Command , the firm has decided to release a version available for iOS and Android by mid 2020. As the company has announced, it is a modern version called Missile Command: Recharged, but with the perspective of the 1980 classic.
According to Atari’s description of the new version of Missile Command, to the classic mission where missiles fight incoming alien rockets to protect civilian structures, enhancers have been added that include an upgrade system and an augmented reality mode that projects the gameplay in a “virtual arcade cabinet”.
The best? Missile Command: Recharged will have the option of a free version with advertising or a single payment to remove the ads, with no more shopping offers in the app.
Atari are sure that this is a game that will probably succeed in attracting more those who are looking for a trip to nostalgia, but that could certainly seduce a new audience by showing how far it has come since the game was first launched in arcade machines .
Likewise, the firm has pointed out in a statement that they find it special to be able to share a redesign of a game that used to require a huge cabinet and a tracking ball to play and that now and thanks to technological development is available on a mobile, with touch technology and augmented reality options that were not even on the radar 40 years ago.
According to the latest announcements, this is shaping up to be a busy year for Atari, which also plans to launch a new console, the ACS VCS financed by crowdfunding, and to start building a new line of Atari themed hotels in 2020.
