Tim Cook arrived at the Scheduling Time event at the Apple Store in New York and had words for everyone. The main goal of this event is the hope Apple puts in the future of education , so he talked about the success of Google Chromebooks in the education market.
They asked him how the Chromebook was leaving aside the iPad as a popular device in the U.S. classrooms , and he was given where it hurt the most. So his answer was that Apple would not follow Google’s strategy in the education market, and he referred to the cheap Chromebooks that had flooded the American classes as toy machines.
According to Cook, the fact that schools computerize exams, makes it necessary to have cheap devices with integrated keyboard and trackpad, instead of tablets that cost more , like the iPad. Apple is not interested in exams.
Tim Cook believes that the class of the future will not be about exams, but will be about problem solving , creating and learning how to express ourselves better.
The education market has always been very important to Apple. That’s why Apple has always bet on iPads in classes with a teaching profile that shows how some teachers use iPads to teach their students.
