As every year, Opower makes a report after the launch of each new generation of iPhone. In this study they tell us how much it will cost us to charge our phone every day for a year .
The prices they give us are based on the price of electricity in the United States, but we can still get an idea of what it will cost us in Spain. We are talking about 0.47 dollars for the iPhone 6 and 0.52 dollars for the iPhone 6 Plus . This means that for less than 50 cents a year we can charge our new smartphone .
This price is rising year after year for obvious reasons, and that is that the iPhone has a bigger battery every time, and electricity is rising every year. But it’s really ridiculous how much it costs us to charge our phone every day , compared to using a computer, a console or a TV, where prices do soar.
What’s more, the energy that would have been consumed by all 10 million iPhone 6s sold on the first weekend is equivalent to less than the energy consumed by all of Nebraska in 12 hours. For example, a desktop computer consumes 41 times more energy than an iPhone 6 . A large flat-panel television consumes 72 times more energy than an iPhone 6.
Remember that this new generation of iPhone can be charged faster using the iPad charger , but we must also know that prolonged use of the quick charging system will reduce the performance and battery life in a short time. So we only recommend doing it at very specific times when we have little time and want to leave home with the maximum possible battery.
