It has rained a lot since the keynote of September 9 and there are many things we still don’t know about the Apple Watch . No release date, nor if the developers have started receiving the SDK to start creating apps that take advantage of its potential. We don’t even know which apps will work in the Apple Watch or what they will look like.
And it seems that in buildblog they must be impatient and sick of biting their nails waiting for more information. So they have contacted some developers and asked them to imagine how the most known and used iOS apps could look like on an Apple Watch . The result is worth a look.
Although in these examples the design of UX and simplification of elements is interesting, and in some cases very aesthetic, there is something that creeps me out in this whole exercise: I don’t see much sense in using applications like YouTube, Facebook Messenger or even Tinder in the Apple Watch .
I don’t think the tiny screen of a clock is the best way to natively run such applications . It would be a disappointment if this was the intention of the developers, to clone the functionality of our smartphone on a much smaller screen, instead of thinking of new uses that take advantage of its features.
Let’s see what surprises us during 2015, and if finally the Apple Watch is confirmed as the revolution that Cupertino’s people promise us . The path proposed by buildblog does not seem to me to be the right one.
