Blackmagic eGPU Pro launch imminent

Apple’s external eGPU that was announced several months ago was delayed for a month until its launch in early 2019. Blackmagic’s eGPU Pro will begin to be available for purchase from the Apple Online Store later this week as picked up by 9to5mac. For the moment in the USA this external graphic will start to reach users next January 15th but in Spain there is not a defined date yet, although little by little they are appearing in all countries, and we are still waiting for the Spanish Store.

Currently in the Apple Store Online we can find an external graphic, the Blackmagic eGPU at a lower price offering acceptable performance but it might be insufficient for the most demanding users and that is why Apple launched this solution that will soon be available.

As we said, in most regions this accessory is scheduled for delivery on January 15, but in other regions it has not yet become available. We hope that in the next hours Apple will enable the purchase of this external graphic in all markets.

The main criticism to the original Blackmagic eGPU is that incorporates a Radeon Pro 580 graphics with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory that gave a somewhat limited performance but could perfectly fulfill the tasks of most users, being able to connect a 5K screen without problem and perform tasks such as video editing at this resolution.

For better graphics performance, Apple has decided to release this Blackmagic eGPU Pro which features a n Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics processor with 8 GB of HBM2 memory . With this accessory you can enjoy an incredible graphic epxereincai, being able to support a workload that before only made an iMac Pro in the words of Apple itself. The connectivity of this equipment is incredible being able to connect several USB-C, DisplayPort or HDMI. The best connection is the DisplayPort, so you can connect compatible monitors that give you good resolution and performance.

To use this external eGPU you simply need a Mac with a Thunderbolt 3 connector and the latest version of the operating system. The price may be the limitation that you find since as we see s in the Apple Store Online has a price in Spain of 1359 ?. If we want to opt for the previous model with a fairer graphics card ‘only’ we will have to pay 695 euros.
