Apple’s news and magazine subscription service leaks into Mojave macOS

On March 25th we have keynote and it is expected that Apple will present two new services under subscription, on the one hand we would have a kind of Netflix with original Apple series and on the other hand a monthly subscription to news and magazines .

Little is known about the first one and some data has just been leaked about the second one. It seems that the latest beta of Mojave 10.14.4 macOS has filtered out some details of this magazine subscription service that Apple is due to release soon.

The well-known developer Steve Troughton-Smith has shared some screenshots from a notification that he has shown his Mac running the latest beta of macOS.

These screenshots display notifications from Apple’s** subscription service that will alert subscribers when new issues of their favorite magazines** are available. Similar subscription information has also been seen in iOS 12.2, with the subscription service called “Apple News Magazines”.

Apple’s magazine subscription service is based on Texture, a digital magazine application that Apple purchased in 2018 . Texture is still available on the App Store with access to over 200 magazines such as People, The New Yorker, Time or National Geographic at a price of $9.99 per month. Apple’s service will most likely be similarly priced but with greater integration within iOS and macOS.

Steve Troughton-Smith has also discovered different magazine categories within the code of the latest betas, among which we find topics such as cars, finance, food, fashion or health.

As we can see Apple will have several subscription services, music, magazines, news and video. We don’t know how these subscriptions will be sold but it is possible that the company will put several of them together in one pack which would make these Apple services unbeatable as a whole.
