As we have seen recently, Apple is starting to give more than obvious signs that are working on a new product and it seems more and more obvious that it is the so famous ” smartwatch “. Rumors already nicknamed it “iWatch”, following the nomenclature used by Apple in all its products and it seems that they have been right on target.
So far, Cupertino’s have registered the mark in Russia, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan and Turkey relatively easily and without major legal headaches. However, it seems that the road will not be equally smooth in all territories, with the United States and the United Kingdom appearing to be major undercuts.
Apple may have serious problems registering the “iWatch” trademark in the United States and the United Kingdom
What happens in these territories? Very simple, Apple has been beaten to the punch. It seems that in the USA the brand “iWatch” has already been registered and is currently owned by OMG Electronics. Something similar is happening in the UK, where the Probendi Inc. company owns the rights to this brand, which are also valid for the whole of Europe.
As they explain very well in Macworld UK:
Therefore, everything seems to indicate that Apple will have to engage in another tough legal battle in both countries to take over the rights to the brand. Let’s remember that Cupertino’s have already had to visit other courtrooms in the past for these same reasons, for both the iPhone and the iPad.
As they say in AppAdevice, for now all you can do is wait for Apple’s next move. Although all the reports that have appeared so far place the release of the possible iWatch at some point in 2014 , we can not say for sure that Apple does not yet have an ace up its sleeve for this year.
Do you think Apple can launch iWatch later this year? What do you expect from the rumored apple smartwatch? Leave us a comment with your opinions.
