BSides is a safety event held in San Francisco on an annual basis. It discusses current security systems and how to improve them. This year Apple has decided to sponsor it through a public donation. This is another step in its effort to participate in public events related to technology and society.
We don’t know how much Apple has donated or has been one of the biggest donors, but is one of the main sponsors along with Google, Dropbox, Fitbit and HackerOne. The two-day event will seek to show the world what advances in security are and how to improve them in the medium term.

Why is Apple sponsoring these events? It’s a matter of public image. Betting on security and offering an extra value to the event since it is a company with experience in the sector, they create a favorable public image for themselves. It is also expected that Apple will share some of its techniques with the rest of the attendees.
This is not the first time Apple has opened up in the security field. In December, for example, Apple announced that the company’s security engineers could share their progress with the community. They also participated with several conferences in the Neural Information Processing Systems.
