At Cupertino they are clear that this cannot be repeated, and apparently they are already taking measures to ensure this.
These measures will include providing a special Xcode download link for China , thus making the download speed much faster without causing problems with the limitations the Chinese government imposes on the country’s network. Something as simple as a slow download was what moved many Chinese developers to use alternative downloads, including the modified Xcode that infected the retired applications.
Apple is talking to the Chinese developers to make sure they use the right Xcode
Additionally, Apple is talking to those developers to make sure they are using the official version of Xcode and not any other that has been subject to modification. If you’re not sure which Xcode installation you have on your Mac, you can always check it out with this little trick.
Looking at the matter with some perspective it must be said that Apple has moved quickly to solve the bug, but at the same time XcodeGhost shows that not even something as closed and controlled as the App Store escapes from the picaresque of some developers. Let’s hope that if something like this happens again, it will do so in a milder way.
