Apple to Include Advanced Mobile Location in iOS 11.3 for Emergency Services

Apple anuncia las novedades que traerá iOS 11.3 en primavera: mejoras en ARKit, mensajes, gestión de la batería y salud

In the summer of last year, Amparo Babiloni explained to us from Xataka what the Advanced Mobile Location (or AML for short) function is. Broadly speaking, it is a system for the emergency services to obtain the location of any user who calls the emergency number. This way they could quickly locate and send help to someone in distress.

Android devices have had that system for a long time, and even then Amparo noted the importance of Apple implementing that feature on its iPhone. It has taken a few months, but finally the company will integrate AML on iPhones running iOS 11.3 .

The important point of AML, besides being able to send that location information without users having to do anything, is that it can be up to 4,000 times more accurate than any other emergency service . And in times of extreme urgency, all the precision we can get is needed.

The European Emergency Number Association has already said that precious minutes can be saved in emergencies thanks to AML, so it’s very good news that Apple has finally integrated this system into iOS. Of course, you’ll need to upgrade to iOS 11.3 to get it.
