Apple releases watchOS 5.1.1 solving the problem that blocked some Apple Watch

Last week Apple made available to users with a compatible Apple Watch the possibility to upgrade to watchOS 5.1 after going through a long process of betas but a last minute failure forced to withdraw this update after a few hours. This bug caused the watches not to complete the update leaving them useless, without going past the Apple logo.

This bug started to be reported in the first hours after its release through the famous Reddit forum where the alarm was raised, and Apple acted quickly as we are used to, removing it in order to work on solving this bug.

After several days of work the company has released a few hours ago watchOS 5.1.1 where this bug is completely solved and at first all the Apple Watch will have no problem to complete its installation.

The update notes do not detail the bug that caused this problem in the installation process but they do maintain all the improvements that watchOS 5.1 had, which are as follows:

  • The Apple Watch Series 4 will now contact emergency services when we have fallen and are completely immobile for several minutes, a sign that we are unconscious. In addition to alerting the emergency services, your emergency contacts will be notified that you’ve fallen by attaching the location coordinates.
  • Fixes a problem that caused an incomplete installation of the Walkie-Talkie app for some users.
  • Solves a problem that prevented some users from sending or receiving Walkie-Talkie invitations.
  • A problem related to activity prices is solved.

We recommend that you update your Apple Watch as no problems have been reported in the installation process so far. We are already updating our smart clocks and have only experienced a time delay in downloading them, probably due to server saturation.
