A new 6-core beast that, as we’ve seen, is capable of outperforming the MacBook Pro in performance tests. But it’s probably not the most important part, probably the component that we have to give more value to is the new GPU , entirely designed by Apple.
In recent months we have seen Apple end its partnership with Imagination Technologies, the company that until now made iOS graphics processors. The new GPUs installed in the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are Apple’s own , and are therefore tailor-made for maximum optimisation.
Apple has focused on machine learning and artificial intelligence with these new GPUs.
In practice, what we will see is a powerful device capable of moving games and videos at incredible speed. However, there are details that the GPU does and together they dramatically improve the user experience. The speed of the iPhone’s camera, the optimization and processing of the images it captures, Siri in all aspects, ARKit… all this would not be possible without the new A11 Bionic chip and Apple’s own GPU. They have been optimized for high performance in artificial intelligence, and it is the future of Apple’s processors. The future is to provide the phone with its own intelligence, to make it a little more humane.
