Apple ranks third in the wearable market

Although far from reaching the popularity of the iPhone, Apple’s wereable segment has earned all the credentials to enter the Fortune 500 list – which holds room for those devices that raise more than $5 billion a year – yet this does not make it the best-selling one over the competition. According to information released by analyst Canalys, during the second quarter of 2017 Apple Watch has been relegated to third place by FitBit and Xiaomi options.

Thus, everything seems to indicate that the delay in a new line of smart watches by Californians has taken its toll. In this sense, the launch of the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE chip is expected to revive interest in this device.

The analysis made by Canalys includes devices of different prices and the final result has placed Xiaomi as the leader in sales during this quarter, with 3.7 million units, followed by Fitbit with 3.4 million and in third place Apple with 2.8 million units shipped.

From this list, Xiaomi is the company that has had a constant growth, attributed to the quality and competitive price of its wristbands. In the meantime, and despite having the second place in this list Fitbit, has lost 12% of the market compared to the same quarter last year. For its part, Apple has achieved a considerable increase compared to 2016, when it sent 1.8 million compared to the current 2.8 million.

However, all is not yet said and the outlook can continue to improve for Apple. With the arrival of the third generation of the Apple Watch it is expected that an LTE chip will be implemented that will allow it to be autonomous with respect to the iPhone, and perform independent functions such as sending messages or making calls without the need to be connected to the mobile.
