According to Bloomberg, Apple may be taking a turn in its plans for Project Titan , the autonomous car the company was thinking of building.
As rumours indicate a deadline has been set (end of 2017) to test the viability of its self-driving technology . Since then, Apple could change the course of its project or abandon it definitively.
The company has been hiring hundreds of employees for Project Titan. These employees are working on developing self-driving technology, test simulators and special sensors.
Initially, Project Titan would see the light of day in the year 2019 or 2020. But at the end of 2015 a lack of leadership and organization could be clearly seen in the project team. In fact, Steve Zadesky left his position as director “for personal reasons” at the beginning of the year.
But it wasn’t the only problem the Apple Car gave. A few months ago, information was leaked that the company delayed its release until 2021.
The original vision of the Apple Car was to create a car that could detect the driver by his fingerprints and automatically drive anywhere. But, little by little, ambition took hold of the company and you know what the saying goes, “he who grasps much, grasps little”…
Another reason for the “change of direction” or possible abandonment of Project Titan, according to sources, is the supply chain. Apple has a great deal of experience in manufacturing iPhone and iPad components thanks to third-party companies, but car parts are another matter.
Do you think that Apple will completely abandon Project Titan at the end of 2017? Or do you think that the company of the bitten apple will radically change its initial plans? You can participate in the comments to give your opinion on the subject.
