A product that Apple was quick to launch. Siri arrived in 2011 and at that time we all dreamed of its possibilities. Now, several years later it is not only little used, other rivals like Google Now or Cortana surpass it.
That is why we are not surprised but excited by the news that Reuters collects exclusively: Apple would be hiring a large number of experts in artificial intelligence . That is, researchers, teachers, engineers, etc. whose specialty is making machines learn.
Why is that interesting? Well, very simply, Apple is at a disadvantage with what other companies like Microsoft, Amazon and especially Google among others are able to offer in this field. Mainly the big G that with Google Now has been able to demonstrate and achieve a very proactive user experience, anticipating many of the user’s requests. So this investment in qualified personnel means nothing more than improvements in Siri and other products and services related to artificial intelligence.
He won’t have it easy anyway. We’ve already seen Apple make continual references to user data privacy. So how will you be able to move quickly to improve your capabilities against the competition? This is something that only Cupertino, for now, knows. So it will be interesting to see the progress. Because Google uses the user experience to make its algorithms learn to actions as varied as distinguishing a color, a ball, a face, etc.
We will see what, how and when they achieve satisfactory results. For now, the most advanced we will have will be the Siri proposals in iOS 9 thanks to the proactive way in which it arrives.
