Selfies on iPhone X’ is Apple’s new campaign where the front camera shows its full potential

The fact that we can unlock and authenticate ourselves with our face has made us leave aside other great qualities that the iPhone X TrueDepth camera has. Because depth detection also allows you to create incredible selfies and even blurs in portrait mode. That’s why it’s the only iPhone model that can take portrait-mode photos with the front camera, too. Apple wanted to highlight this in its latest advertising campaign.

Coinciding with the arrival of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, Apple Brazil has released a new video in which the iPhone X and its front camera are in charge of capturing all the essence of the party. Dozens of selfies taking advantage of the different lighting modes flood this new video to the rhythm of the music. There is also a section on Apple’s official website with several tutorials to get this kind of photos.

Portrait lighting is a feature that came with iOS 11 and is still in beta phase , so your results may not be completely accurate. In iOS 12 you will probably exit the beta phase in the same way that Portrait Mode ceased to be in beta phase when iOS 11 arrived. This feature works on iPhone 8 Plus with its rear camera and on iPhone X with its front and rear camera. They are the only two devices that so far meet the requirement of detecting depth and being able to process the data thanks to a neural chip like the A11 Bionic.

Portrait Lighting has a simple but complex operation . The good thing about it is that the user only has to choose one of the five available modes and the iPhone will process the image to provide that result. As we saw at the time: you take a picture in Portrait Mode and then simply change the lighting to get a studio picture.
