We would be talking about an expansion of 5667 square meters that would take advantage of a space in the General Motors building on that avenue, which would give much more breathing room to a place that is open 24 hours a day and is permanently full of people. What is the obstacle? Well, as always, money.
Apple believes you deserve reduced rentals for turning your store into “a tourist attraction”
The problem is that renting the space for this expansion would be somewhere between $2700 and $4450 per square foot, a sum of money that Apple does not want to pay. In fact, Cupertino’s company thinks it deserves a special price since it has turned its Fifth Avenue Apple Store “into a tourist attraction” that attracts many people and therefore generates income in the area.
The response of the company that owns the space has been to re-let it to a company owned by Donald Trump until 2022 , so if this expansion has to be carried out it will not be in the short term. However, it is true that this Apple Store has become a destination to visit not only for fans of the brand, but for most tourists who walk around Manhattan.
