Apple Is Building A 4K TV [Rumor]

It’s been some time since we heard the latest rumor about the possible TV from the inventors of the iPad. It seems that the speculated iTV has been put aside to focus the rumors on the alleged iWatch and the entry of Cupertino’s into the low-cost smartphone market.

However, a new report from China appeared on the web today, stating that Apple is in talks with Foxconn to set up a TV production schedule. The report also says that this alleged iTV will land on the market at the end of 2013 or early next year.

As reported by DigiTimes :

The report indicates that Apple has finally opted for LG Display for the majority of its 4K panel production, and that it hopes to be able to mass produce them in the second half of the year. If so, it is expected that Apple will introduce its TV in late 2013 or early 2014 .

As always, it is worth noting that DigiTimes has a history of ups and downs in terms of rumors about Apple. While it has proven on several occasions that its supply chain sources are quite reliable, any publication that comes from them should be taken with a grain of salt.

And, of course, some critics still think that Apple has no interest in televisions, since the life cycle of a television is much longer than that of a smartphone or tablet, just as margins are much worse. Many of these critics bet more on an external multimedia device rather than on a complete TV.

If I remember correctly the last more or less credible report on Apple’s TV was published in December by The Wall Street Journal , in which it was said that Apple was testing designs of prototype TVs with Asian suppliers. “It’s not a formal project yet, it’s still in the early stages of testing” .

Before this publication there were indeed numerous rumours about iTV. If Apple’s TV finally becomes a reality, the company’s biggest problem will be pricing. Right now, most 4K resolution TVs are over 15,000.

What do you think? Do you think the iTV will come true? If so, how much would you be willing to pay for an Apple TV?
