The different iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and their compatibility with telephone networks

The iPhone range currently consists of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s. Three models which are then divided into sub-models according to whether they are for the Asian, European or American market. The essential aspects are identical and where the differences appear is in the types of network and telephone bands you can connect to.

If you had doubts, something that usually happens if we consider buying an iPhone 5c or 5s outside our country or we think about traveling to another place and we don’t know if we will be able to use a SIM from a local operator or not, I hope that with the following data everything will be clearer. Here are the different models of iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 5s has six models in total, these are

  • Model A1453: works under CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B networks (800, 17002100, 1900, 2100 MHz bands), supports 13 LTE bands (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26); UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 17002100, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
  • Model A1533 (GSM): GSM version of model A1533. Sold with AT&T and T-Mobile. Supports 11 LTE bands (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25), UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 17002100, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
  • Model A1533 (CDMA): CDMA version of A1533 Operates under CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 17002100, 1900, 2100 MHz) and is sold with Verizon. Supports 11 LTE bands (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25), UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 17002100, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
  • Model A1457: Model for Europe. Supports 7 LTE bands (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20), supports UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
  • Model A1530: Model for Asia. It supports 3 TD-LTE bands (38, 39, 40) and 7 FDD-LTE (1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20), also compatible with China Mobile’s TD-LTE network. It supports UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).
  • Model A1528: Model for China. This is the GSM version of the A1530 and does not support LTE networks. It only supports UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz).

iPhone 5c

The following models are available for the iPhone 5c:

  • Model A1532: GSM version for North America compatible with UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1.7002.100, 1.900 and 2.100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1.800 and 1.900 MHz); LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20 and 25)
  • Model A1532 (CDMA): Version sold with Verizo compatible with CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. 100 MHz); UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1.7002.100, 1.900 and 2.100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1.800 and 1.900 MHz); LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 19, 20 and 25)
  • Model A1532 (CDMA): Non-China version without LTE support but compatible with CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B networks (800, 1,7002,100, 1,900 and 2,100 MHz); UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1,7002,100, 1,900 and 2,100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz)
  • Model A1456: Version sold in the United States and Japan, compatible with CDMA EV-DO Rev. 100 MHz); UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1.7002.100, 1.900 and 2.100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1.800 and 1.900 MHz); LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25 and 26)
  • Model A1507: UK and European model, UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1,900 and 2,100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz); LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20)
  • Model A1526: China exclusive model, compatible with UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1,900 and 2,100 MHz)
  • Model A1529: Pacific region model, compatible with UMTSHSPA+DC-HSDPA networks (850, 900, 1,900 and 2,100 MHz); GSMEDGE (850, 900, 1,800 and 1,900 MHz); FDD-LTE (bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20); TD-LTE (bands 38, 39 and 40)

Temas de interés Therefore, unless it is for travel reasons and want to use a local operator, if you intend to buy an iPhone in another country to save a few euros better not to do so. Buy it in your country if possible and not only will you avoid problems but in case of failure the warranty will answer you without problems.
