Apple discontinues sale of 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Air 2015

The recent renewal of the MacBook Pro range with new processors and a price restructuring on MacBook Air. However, these innovations from Apple did not come alone, but brought with them the farewell of a model of MacBook that had been forgotten by the company in recent years: the 12-inch. Here’s why this MacBook is being fired ‘just like that’. It’s not called ‘Air’ or ‘Pro’ because of its nickname.

Apple’s MacBook wasn’t the company’s first laptop with this screen size, but it was the first of the company’s newest era. By 2015, it would occupy the entry level range of computers on the block previously occupied by the MacBook Air.

A modern design, a tight but quality screen and a lower price than the rest made this equipment ideal for those who wanted an Apple computer or who wanted a highly portable computer that they could carry anywhere in a small backpack or suitcase.

Apple’s neglect of the ‘Air’ range of computers and even the iPad for some years led many of us to believe that the MacBook range would ‘just’ be the device that would share shelves with the MacBook Pro in the future. However, the fact that didn’t renew this device for 3 years – the last revision was in 2016 – and saw the MacBook Air range resurrect last autumn, made us predict that this range would eventually disappear.

Indeed the disappearance was completed in these days and although we can find certain advantages to this small MacBook the truth is that it seems not to have permeated too much among users. Having somewhat outdated components for the rapid progress of technology has also had too much influence on its rapid departure.

We don’t know if Apple will consider re-launching a MacBook with a 12-inch screen in the future. And although everything can happen, we must bear in mind that the arrival of iPadOS could represent a major obstacle , as iPad Pro could strongly eclipse a Mac with this screen size.

There’s also a farewell to the last ‘illuminated apple’, the MacBook Air 2015

The year 2015 was a turning point for Apple in the design of its MacBook . The ability to see its notebooks with a backlit apple logo became an icon of the brand that would eventually disappear that year after the launch of the last devices with this feature: the MacBook Pro from early 2015 and the MacBook Air, which was no longer on sale.

The reason Apple decided to remove the illuminated apple from the MacBook design was to lighten the weight of the computers while making them thinner . This is because the logo was nothing more than a hole that was left open at the back of the screen and was illuminated by the light that the screen let through.

Although the MacBook Air range continues to be revamped and is expected to continue, will no longer have the illuminated apple , as this 2015 model was still officially on sale until 9 July. However, it should be noted that this equipment can still be purchased at distributors such as Amazon at a really good price as you can see by clicking here .
