Today we were able to learn about the confirmation of the retirement of Greg Christie, one of the designers of the original team of the iPhone . This withdrawal comes after almost 20 years working side by side with Jonathan Ive and is a withdrawal that has been agreed for months but it is today when his departure is known. Now the team of people who were under Greg’s charge will go on to report directly to Jonathan Ive on all their progress.
Greg is classified as the direct responsible of the “Slide to Unlock” concept that so surprised us back in 2007 when we saw Steve Jobs make the gesture for the first time before our astonished eyes. His retirement won’t happen overnight, and just as it happened with Bob Mansfield, he’ll be at Apple for another season until everything is ready for his departure. This will presumably happen by the end of the year.
It is said that there were some disagreements between him and Jonathan Ive in recent years , but everything points to the fact that this is really a retirement after 20 years at the head of a company as powerful as Apple. It would simply be the diversity of opinions between two people who have been working together for 20 years, nothing more serious than that. Now, Greg’s team, as I said, will be run by Jonathan.
