It started as a rumor but has quickly been confirmed: Apple has acquired a company called LuxVue Technology , specialized in the manufacture of low power LEDs and which had raised $25 million in financing at the end of last year. Mike Deal
It is not known how much Apple has paid for this purchase, but it looks like another one of those discreet, surgically precise purchases to give Apple more resources for a given product or service. The company’s official response has been the same as always: ” Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans “.
The application of LuxVue’s proprietary technology is quite clear: screens with small LEDs that can benefit both iOS devices ( improving their efficiency and battery life ) and a future iWatch that needs to miniaturize a screen as much as possible. As always with these things, we’ll see the result applied in future Apple products.
