Apple announces that it will correct the bug in FaceTime next week

Yesterday we echoed some data from Google Analytics which showed that Apple was already testing iOS 12.1.4. This version will be the one that corrects the serious bug of FaceTime detected this week. Therefore we saw the imminent release of this version, however Apple has apologized for the bug and announced that an update will be released next week . Details are given below.

Better late than never, because even though Apple could have been aware of the FaceTime bug since January 20th, it wasn’t until a few minutes ago that it apologized for it. They have done it through a communication to several media in which they also announced that they will delay the correction of the bug until next week.

So was the press release from Apple:

“We’ve fixed the security bug with FaceTime group calls on Apple’s servers and will issue a software update to re-enable the feature for users next week. We thank the Thompson family for reporting the bug. We sincerely apologize to the customers who were affected and all those who were concerned about this security issue. We appreciate everyone’s patience in completing this process.

We want to assure our customers that as soon as our engineering team realized the details needed to resolve the error, they quickly disabled the FaceTime group calls and started working on the solution. We are committed to improving the process by which we receive and extend these reports so that they reach the right people as quickly as possible. We take the security of our products very seriously and are committed to continuing to earn the trust that Apple customers place in us.

The error in FaceTime is some kind of bug that allowed when making a group call through this service to hear and even see the other participants before they had accepted the call . This bug created a widespread alarm among users as is evident and therefore, as Apple says in its statement, they had to disable it. There is no longer even a fault in FaceTime video calls on Apple TV.

So we can only wait for this update to be released next week. It will probably be on Monday the day this unexpected iOS 12.1.4 version is finally released. In any case we will inform you when this update is official.
