A few days before the start of WWDC 2019, Apple has decided to increase the download limit for applications and games over the data network in the App Store. This will now allow us to download much larger applications without having to connect to a WiFi network.
Until now Apple imposed a download limit of 150 MB, but now this limit has been increased to 200 MB, something that surely accompanies the decision of many companies to offer us a greater amount of data in our mobile rates.
However, this decision is still far from what many users expect, which is more freedom. This limit is imposed from Apple so that the user is not forced to download by mistake a very heavy application or game and ends up affecting the data rate.
However, we believe that Apple should give users the opportunity to bypass this limitation, by showing a simple warning of the weight of the application or game and asking for confirmation from the user whether he or she is sure about it.
We are currently seeing many phone companies choose to offer unlimited data rates . For these users who have signed up for these data rates, we believe that Apple should allow them to remove this limitation. It is a bit silly that if you have data ‘to bore’, we have a limitation imposed.
We hope that in the future Apple will choose to waive this limitation or give users the option to continue downloading by giving prior notice of the risks that it will seriously affect their contracted data rate. However, we are seeing that this process can be very slow , because since 2017 we did not see an increase in the download limit from 100 to 150 MB.
