If you thought Android tablets were on the heels of the iPad, you’re wrong. In a chart we show you how these sell for less than some of the most failed consoles in history.
The iPad’s resounding success leaves no room for doubt. Apple has been able to sell several tens of millions in just over a year behind its back. Its competitors started the race right after Cupertino’s, but never being at the same level , and that shows in the sales.
To get an idea of the sales that tablets with Android or the BlackBerry PlayBook are having, the developer of Instapaper has created a graph in his personal blog comparing the sales of these with the most failed consoles of the last 30 years .
Consoles that you don’t even know existed were more successful than tablets with Android or the BlackBerry PlayBook. To give you an example, the Panasonic 3DO – yes, Panasonic also tried it with the consoles -, which sold about two million units in three years already is more successful than the Android tablet , where there are several dozen models to choose from.
Another failure is the BlackBerry PlayBook, which has sold even less than the Philips CD-i , both of which sold less than a million units in their lifetime. No, I didn’t know about the Philips CD-i either.
Marco makes a rather funny statement in the short text of the post that accompanies his graphic:
