If yesterday we saw rumours that the AirPower charger would go on sale sometime in 2019, now it’s the turn of the AirPods. Again, DigiTimes states that the AirPods 2 will arrive during the first half of 2019 and will do so with user health monitoring functions, without giving further details.

This is how this report made it clear that the second generation AirPods will arrive over the next six months. That leaves us with three possible options:

  • By press release at any time. As these are AirPods 2, it’s the least we can expect. The Smart Battery Case was just released, but it is not one of the most interesting categories at the moment.
  • An event in March or April, where Apple announces more things like an iPad mini 5, new 9.7-inch iPad and even the AirPower charger.
  • The next WWDC in 2019, which is expected to take place in early June.

As for health monitoring, let’s remember that the Bragi The Dash headset included it. Both headphones incorporate cardiac sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer . This allows them to record our activity in different sports and the AirPods 2 could do something similar. It is clear that, in this case, the autonomy would be reduced although we will not know more details until Apple officially announces them.

As for the price, let’s remember two things. The first one is that Bloomberg placed these AirPods 2 as a premium version of the original product. If they have heart sensors for alleged monitoring, it is quite possible that Apple will keep both generations on sale. And this is where the second point comes in: the Apple TV.

Today, Apple TV is sold in two different generations. One with Full HD support and the newer one with 4K support and other advanced audio and video technologies. By releasing the second generation, Apple kept the first generation at the same price. Still, I wouldn’t rule out the “older” generation having some minor enhancements like Oye Siri or the wireless charging case.
