A stainless steel iPhone? We’d like to see it, and rumors point to the next iPhone

DigiTimes

New rumors are coming from Asia, and this time they point to something completely new: a stainless steel iPhone, replacing the current aluminum adonized. According to several Taiwanese sources, Apple could be working with this material for this year’s iPhone . The result would be something similar to the stainless steel Apple Watch.

Actually it wouldn’t be the first time we see stainless steel on the iPhone, as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s came with a metal bar on the sides that was made of stainless steel. On the iPhone 5 however, the material was left out in favour of aluminium.

Using stainless steel instead of aluminium would give the iPhone a little more elegance thanks to its polish and brilliance. Compared to glass, this is obviously a much less fragile and more shock-resistant material. It remains to be seen whether this material will be applied to the premium model or to the normal models of the next iPhone, but everything indicates that it will be applied to the premium model.

If the rumour that the next iPhone would be made of stainless steel becomes true, we would be looking at a design similar to that of the Apple Watch : stainless steel on the back, rounded edges that join with the curved screen, an OLED panel and the removal of any buttons on the front.
